The standard carton used by the New Zealand industry is the 18kg net "Z pack" carton.
When shipped in 40" reefer containers, Z packs are palletised 56 cartons per pallet and stowed with 21 pallets to give a total standard load of 1,176 cartons per container.
Depending on customer requirements, with forward planning it is possible to vary the pack / stow configurations where required.
Using an 18kg carton, apples are packed to the following standard fruit size counts:-
50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 / 135 / 150 / 165 / 180
If a 20kg net "Maxi pack" carton is required, using the same fruit sizes shown above, the count per carton then becomes as follows:-
60 / 70 / 80 / 88 / 100 / 113 / 125 / 138 / 150 / 165 / 180 / 198
Maxi packs are palletised 49 cartons per pallet and stowed with 21 pallets, gives a total load of 1,029 cartons per 40' reefer container.
For retail customers we can discuss and arrange supply of single and double layer "Retail Display Trays" if required, these packs generally presented as a 12.5kg net "RDT pack".
We source fruit from a number of Hawke’s Bay pack houses who pack their own brands for various customer programs.
Global Fresh also has the premium BAYFRESH® brand available for supply to specific programs arranged by us for select customer contracts sourced directly from dedicated grower-packer supply groupings.

Produce Information & Availablity
Deregulation of the pipfruit sector in 2001 saw the entrance of a number of exporters in the 2002 season, including Global Fresh.
Diversification into the apple category was a logical development for Global Fresh as it complimented the other initiatives being pursued in the other key categories of kiwifruit and avocados.
Global Fresh became a pioneer with the development of NutriClean® fruit supply programmes, focused on growing & supplying fruit certified as being 'Pesticide Residue Free' to niche retailers.
Production Regions
New Zealand apples are renowned throughout the world for their texture, flavour and appearance. New Zealand earns this because its climate, typified by cool winters then warm and dry summers, which when combined with the fertility of the soil types in which they are grown, create a fantastic apple.
Global Fresh has premium suppliers centred in New Zealand's main production region Hawke's Bay, located on the east coast of the North Island, representing approximately 60% of the total planted area in New Zealand.
Other regions include Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago in the South Island and Auckland, Waikato, Gisborne and Wairarapa in the North Island.
The New Zealand industry has always been at the forefront of varietal development and plant breeding.
Royal Gala and Braeburn are the two main varieties available from New Zealand with each representing approximately 30% of the total variety mix. Other significant varieties that are available include Fuji, Granny Smith, New Zealand Rose, New Zealand Queen, Cox's Orange and Pink Lady.
Whilst the period of availability will vary from season to season depending on climatic conditions and whether Controlled Atmosphere (“CA”) or conventional coolstorage is used, the main harvest period for New Zealand apples stretches from mid February until early May, with shipping to most major markets generally completed by August.
